Brian Hammons' Big Hill Race Report (2006)

Race Report: Kentucky Off Road Hare Scrambles Series (KORHS) - Round 10
Rider: Brian Hammons - ATV Open C Class Winner
Bike: Honda TRX450 #452

What a day to race! The weather turned out great, the track was in perfect shape and the riders were pumped. Thanks to all the hard work by the track workers this was indeed on of the best courses we would have the privilege of racing this year!

As time got closer and closer to the green flag dropping I felt pretty confident in myself on the holeshot. This is one place I have had trouble this season and finally, the last race comes around and I figured it out. 10 Seconds……The Green Flag dropped, I kicked my H&S Powersports Sponsored Honda TRX 450R and away I went. I had the lead by at least three quad lengths right off the bat. As we approached the woods I had picked up some pretty good speed. I locked up all four wheels and slid right into a tree, this caused a major bottle neck right off the starting line. Luckily I was able to get it pulled back off the tree and head into the woods still in First place.

As the first lap went on the track was covered with leaves so we took it easy at first to see what was lurking beneath the hidden cover. Unfortunately I found a rock and punctured my Left rear tire. I rode half the first lap and a whole second lap before changing the tire thanks to my HiPer carbon fiber beadlock wheel. Luke Mcintosh passed me on the second lap when I miss judged a hill and my flat tire took me right off the track. I knew I would have to push hard because Luke is not one to mess around with. I finally made it to the pits where an impact and new tire was waiting on me. We got the tire changed and away I went. I was well over 2 minutes behind Luke at this point so I sit back on the seat, put my head down and gave it all I had to try and catch him. I made up about two minutes on my third lap only to be behind by about 30 seconds or less. About 3 miles in Luke had wedged his bike between two trees. I made the pass and stopped to help him out. We freed his bike and both took off to race the second part of the track. Along the way Luke had more problems so I held the lead till the end.

It was a great track and as the day went on it only got better! I was pumped to get my First win of the season after breaking my leg last October. It is a good feeling to win the championship and I am looking forward to moving up in class next year.

Thanks for a great season!
