Bryce Gartman's Elk Run Race Report (2007)

Race Report: Kentucky Off Road Hare Scrambles Series (KORHS) - Round 9
Rider: Bryce Gartman - 1st Super Mini Winner - 1st Overall
Bike: 07 KTM 105SX

What an awesome track! The course was a record 6.7 miles long with a lot of straights, some "Erzberg" style hills, a tricky creek section, and some open single track. The temperature was just perfect, and the dust wasn't bad, but yet I only had seven riders in my race. The start was a short one, but it was good enough to shift to third. I pulled the holeshot and entered the race with an early lead. I blew the first little mound of gravel and was sure Austin would steal the lead with an inside pass. To my luck, Austin played it safe and let me by on that one.

Before the race my dad had warned me about a creek in the woods that was pretty lengthy and had some drop offs in it. He did forget to tell me that these drop-offs where hidden under the murky brown water. So I entered the creek cautiously looking ahead for the ledges my dad warned me about. Well I found the ledges alright, but with out even knowing it. I didn't wreck but it sure didn't look pretty. I kept going and then there I go again I hit the next drop off with the same style as the previous one. After that I had to air out my engine on the straight away's to help clean some of the water out of my exhaust pipe. It worked because my bike quickly gained its power back and I took off. I had no other surprises through out the rest of the race. I ended up grabbing the overall for round 9, which by the way had a cool name, "Elk Run."

Behind me was my racing buddies Austin, Cody, and Garrison. I haven't took the time to meet the other four riders, but I sure will next race. Austin had a good consistent race and took second place in super mini and second place overall. Cody, (making his return from a broken foot), finished first in mini A and third overall. Travis Beckner rode a consistent race also. Which earned him a fourth overall, and a third place in super mini. Fifth overall went to Alex Osborn in the mini A class. Garrison Bullock took a hard endo in to the creek on his second lap, in which he got sixth overall and first in the mini B. Seventh overall was Tanner Spurlock. I have to say this was an awesome day for racing, and I hope to see everyone at round 10 Mtn. Parkway #3.
