Lauren Parkers' Clay City (MPOR) Race Report (2006)
Well, let me just say that it has been extremely hard making the switch
from the 85 class to the womens class. Everyone is a lot faster and
the boys will basically do anything to pass me because I'm a girl.
Since this is only my third race on the new YZ250F, I'm still getting
used
to the power and having to pick up all 220 lbs. of it (many times).
On the first start, I got the holeshot and had the lead into the woods, but I
still have a lot of work to do to hold off Julie McWilliams. She caught me after
the
first mud hole, but crashed just ahead of me.
On the restart, I got the holeshot, Julie passed me again and all I could do
was try and keep her in my sights. The first lap seemed like it took forever.
I guess I was just playing it safe and trying to get the feel for the course.
On the second lap I finally got in race mode and caught up to her at the bottom
of a hill. She turned around and saw me and took off up it, not wanting to lose
any time. I never saw her again until after the race. There was kind of an awkward
situation towards the end of the lap. My ex-boyfriend and I ended up stuck in
the same rut together. We glanced at one another and tried to get out as soon
as we could.
I really liked the long, steep hills with the power of my 250F. The course was
fantastic varying from dusty mountain tops, to slick creek beds. Thanks for all
hard work from KORHS, I can really see the series improving.
