Paul Whibley's Big Hill Race Report (2007)

Race Report: Kentucky Off Road Hare Scrambles Series (KORHS) - Round 9
Rider: Paul Whibley - Bike Overall Winner

This past weekend I raced a round of the Kentucky Harescramble series in the Big hill area near Berea. This area hasn't had rain for a long time and the ground was bone dry, so a dusty race was expected. I got a bad start and had to follow most of the first lap in the blinding dust. Near the end of lap one I moved into 2nd behind Marty Michels.
Marty was riding well and led the way through scoring on the first lap. Shortly after on one of the powdery hillclimbs, I snuck past as he made a mistake in the foot deep powder. I had fitted a filter skin over the filter and was glad I had, as many bikes were choking from the clogging powdery dust.

Racing was difficult, because soon we were into lapped traffic. Seeing through the dust was tough and making your way around the guys safely was even tougher. Although most guys were very polite and moved over for the faster rider. I pulled my filter skin off late in the race and the bike had a new lease of life. After 7 laps and over 2 hrs of racing I took the win.
