Paul Whibley's Georgetown Race Report (2006)

Race Report: Kentucky Off Road Hare Scrambles Series (KORHS)
Rider: Paul Whibley
Team: Moose, Parts Unlimited, Honda
Bike: Honda CRF 450

Not long after getting off the plane I raced a round of the Kentucky XC series (KORHS). I had been back in NZ for a week to sort my visa so I could stay on here in the states and finish the season. I was still suffering from jet lag but I was just happy to be back on a bike. The track would have to be one of the best Ive ridden here in the states. It was fresh tracks through woods with a lot of grass sections in between the pockets of woods. The grass sections were mown through waist high grass and was tight with a lot of offcamber corners. Rain leading up to this race meant track conditions were perfect.

I got a good start and was in a comfortable 2nd spot for most of the first lap. I was following Jeff Cregg, on his RM 250. He was riding really well and had set a good early pace. Midway through the first lap he had a minor spill on a slippery off camber and went down. I took over at the front and pushed on. I was really enjoying the course and got into a good flow. The race went pretty quick and before I knew it, the checkered flag was out. I was able to win comfortably .
A really enjoyable, fun race. The fresh tracks and mown grass sections were awesome. I look forward to this event next year!
